Before law school, Leonard attended the University of Washington, graduating summa cum laude in Psychology. He then attended Harvard Law School, graduating magna cum laude in 1991. Leonard then worked as a judicial law clerk for Ninth Circuit Judge Jerome Farris. Leonard is a member of and was previously Chair of the King County Bar Association’s Appellate Section and is currently a member of the Washington Appellate Lawyers Association, a District Coordinator for the Ninth Circuit Pro Bono Program, a Ninth Circuit Appellate Lawyer Representative, and a Ninth Circuit mentor. Leonard has handled dozens of appeals involving insurance coverage matters and is currently appellate counsel for a group of plaintiffs who recovered over $17 million in a negligence and CPA action against Continental Insurance Company. One of the issues on cross-appeal in that matter is whether the district court erred in dismissing the plaintiffs’ IFCA claim as a matter of law based on its conclusion that IFCA applies only to first-party insurance even though the plain language of the statute indicates otherwise and subsequent case law so holds.    Collapse
