Presentation of 2017 WSAJ Judge of the Year Award
Keynote Speaker: Ron Sims
Ron Sims’ commitment to equity and social justice issues, combined with his experience as an elected and appointed official in our state and in the other Washington, puts him in a unique position to comment on current national policies and social justice issues.
Appointed by Governor Jay Inslee, Sims serves as the chair of the Washington Health Benefit Exchange Board which is responsible for the implementation of the Affordable Care Act in Washington State.
Sims is on the Board of Regents of Washington State University.
Sims served as the Deputy Secretary for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development from 2009 to 2011. He was appointed by President Obama and unanimously confirmed by the U.S. Senate.
As King County Executive for twelve years, Sims was nationally recognized for his work on the integration of environmental, social equity and public health policies that produced groundbreaking work on climate change, health care reform, affordable housing, mass transit, environmental protection, land use, and equity and social justice.
Proceeds from this dinner will benefit WSAJ’s Bar Prep Scholarship Program and WSAJ’s New Trial Advocacy Summer Fellowship Program established last year in honor of retired Executive Director Gerhard Letzing and his commitment to bring new attorneys to the plaintiff bar and to WSAJ.
