1 Program with Frederick C. Berry, Jr.

Rick has had experience in the business of insurance all his life. In high school and college, he worked for the family independent insurance agency and became a licensed insurance producer when he turned 18. As an undergraduate, Rick received his Bachelor of Science degree in Insurance from Arizona State University (1969). His Juris Doctor degree was awarded in 1973 by ASU where he was an Editor of the Arizona State Law Journal. Rick served as the Deputy Director of Insurance of the State of Arizona from July 1, 1976 through September 30, 1978 and attained his professional insurance designations of Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) in 1981 and Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) in 1983. Rick has been very active in the CPCU Society at both a local and national level. He was a 13-year instructor for the Legal Environment of Insurance for the Insurance Institute of America and was President of the Arizona Chapter of the CPCU Society. Nationally, he was a member of the Ethics Committee and Board of Director for several years and was Western Regional Vice-President of the Society which included Washington State. His highest national service was serving as Chair of the 2001 Annual Meeting and Seminars which was held in Seattle. Because the Annual Meeting took place one-month after the 9/11 terrorist attacks, 3 of the 26 seminar topics presented over the course of a week were significantly revised to include topics arising out of the 9/11 insured losses. These proceedings were reported widely in the insurance industry trade press. For many years, Rick has been a sustaining member of the Arizona Association for Justice (AzAJ). He served as a member of the State Bar of Arizona Insurance Committee for 25 years six of which as Chair. He was also a member of the State Bar Professional Liability Committee for 26 years. Most recently, Rick was a member of the Arizona Supreme Court Committee on Character and Fitness from June 14, 2011 to October 31, 2014. In 2010 Rick resumed being a licensed insurance producer in Arizona and presently holds licenses for life, health, disability, property and liability insurance.
