Alan Weisser, J.D., Ph.D.
DR. ALAN WEISSER is a Clinical Psychologist currently in private practice as Director of NewOptions, Inc., a pain recovery program. He received a law degree from New York Law School in1968 and his PhD in Clinical Psychology in 1993. He is a member of the New York State Bar Association and a Licensed Psychologist in the states of New York and Washington.

Dr. Weisser left a thriving law practice when he became interested in issues surrounding the delivery of effective therapeutic services within the public mental health system. To accomplish this transition, he received his initial clinical training through Bellevue Hospital Center and later with the Einstein/Bronx Psychiatric Center. At Bronx Psychiatric Center he spend a number of years in major leadership positions dedicated to converting the treatment of chronically mentally ill patients from a cure to a recovery model. His various endeavors helped the hospital substantially in transitioning large numbers of the chronically mentally ill from an inpatient setting to successfully living in the community. These transitions were facilitated for patients by addressing not only clinical concerns but medical delivery-system-based problems. Relocating to the Seattle area in 1997, hecontinued this approach to the chronically mentally ill population within the community mental health system in both publicly funded and managed care settings. Most recently he began work in a traditional pain management program, where he applied his well-tested ideas to offer effective recovery-based treatment to people who suffer with chronic pain. In addition to this work, he has founded New Options, Inc., a practice specializing in innovative practices managing chronic pain. He is also serving as a consultant to the State of Washington, Department of Labor and Industries in a pilot program designed to aid medical providers in their treatment of injured workers with chronic pain. He is a sought after speaker for both professional and patient-centered audiences.
